As part of the Potsdam Edict of Tolerance, Friedrich Wilhelm of Brandenburg offered a new home in Prussia to the Huguenot refugees. Nearly 70 years later, the Huguenot community had grown so much that in 1752, it was decided to build a French Protestant church for them.

Friendship Island is a gem among the urban green spaces of Potsdam. Located in the heart of the city between two arms of the Havel River, it is a refuge for nature and art appreciation, walks, and relaxation.

The Glienicke Bridge spans the Havel River between Jungfernsee and Glienicker Lake and is considered one of the most historically significant road connections between Potsdam and Berlin. Idyllically located on the southern shore of the Heiliger See, the Gothic Library - built in the late 18th century - long served as a library. Today, the Gothic Library is once again a true architectural highlight. From the tower’s arcaded gallery, visitors can enjoy a magnificent view of the Heiliger See and the Marble Palace

Located in the heart of Potsdam on Breite Straße, the former "Great Military Orphanage" is the city's largest preserved Baroque architectural ensemble. The building complex, situated between Breite, Dortu-, Sporn-, and Lindenstraße, was founded in 1724 by Frederick William I as an educational and training institution for soldiers' children and military orphans.

The Gutspark Groß Glienicke (Gross Glienicke Manor Park) is a landscape park originally belonging to the Groß Glienicke manor, located at the northern end of Groß Glienicker See. The manor was owned by various noble families from the Brandenburg region.

The Havel is a flow-regulated river that exhibits little to no floodplain dynamics. The weir in Brandenburg an der Havel ensures that target water levels are maintained.

The riverside promenade opposite Friendship Island stretches between the Lange Brücke (Long Bridge) and the Heilig-Geist-Spital (Holy Spirit Hospital). Along the restored quay wall, visitors can stroll from the Alte Markt (Old Market), passing flower and perennial beds, across the new bridge to Friendship Island or continue on to Große Fischerstraße.

Nuthepark, located on former lowland meadows at the mouth of the Nuthe River—a previously neglected area with remnants of shipyards and old bathing facilities—is now a naturalistic landscaped park featuring play areas and open lawns.
